1. Purpose
Pageteer is for reading publicly available web pages and search results. This Acceptable Use Policy (the "AUP") is part of the Terms of Service. Many of these rules are enforced automatically by the API and double-checked by our rendering engine; the rules apply whether or not a request is technically blocked.
2. No account, login or checkout automation
You may not use the Service to:
- log in to, create, register or operate accounts on any site;
- submit forms, place orders, complete checkouts or make payments;
- access pages that require authentication, including by sending session cookies or credentials for account areas;
- use page actions to enter data, submit forms, change anything on a site, or interact with or get past a CAPTCHA or other bot check.
The API only loads pages: it has no form-submission, typing, login or custom-JavaScript feature, and requests that try to use one are rejected. Its optional page actions are read-only: waiting, scrolling, navigation keys and clicks that reveal more of the same page or site (such as "Load more", tabs or accordions). Clicks on form fields, submit buttons, login and payment forms, links to other sites and controls that change something are refused, and a CAPTCHA stops the request. Requests that send cookies or credential headers (such as Authorization) to a URL whose path looks like a login, sign-in, registration, password, checkout or account page are refused.
3. Off-limits categories of sites
These categories are denylisted and refused, whatever unblocking tier you choose:
- banking, brokerage and other financial account portals;
- government services login portals;
- healthcare patient portals;
- email and webmail services;
- password managers;
- payment checkouts and payment processors' hosted pages.
We maintain and may extend the denylist at any time without notice.
4. No private or internal networks
You may not target private, loopback, link-local, internal or cloud-metadata addresses, or any host that resolves to them, or otherwise use the Service to reach infrastructure that is not on the public internet. Such requests are refused.
5. Personal data
You may not use the Service to harvest personal data, except business contact details that a business has publicly listed for being contacted (for example a company's published sales email or phone number), and then only in compliance with applicable law (such as data-protection and anti-spam laws).
In particular you may not build profiles of individuals, scrape personal social-media data at scale, or collect sensitive data (health, financial, biometric, children's data and similar).
6. Respect for target sites
- Do not overload sites or disrupt their operation. We throttle requests per target host; do not try to evade it.
- Comply with the terms of service and other rules of the sites you target, and with the law.
- Do not use the Service to infringe intellectual property or to distribute content you have no right to.
- Do not use the Service for credential stuffing, fraud, spam, ad fraud, scalping or denial of service.
7. Your own proxy
If your team uses its own proxy for the residential tier, you are responsible for having the right to use it and for complying with your proxy provider's terms and acceptable use rules, including any limits on the sites you may reach through it. Their rules apply in addition to this AUP, not instead of it.
This AUP applies in full to every request sent through your proxy: the same rules, denylist and checks apply whichever proxy a request uses. Do not use a proxy to evade our throttling, a block or a suspension, and do not point it at private or internal infrastructure (such proxies are refused).
8. Protecting the Service
- Do not probe, scan or test the Service's security without written permission.
- Do not share accounts or keys to get around plan limits, or create accounts to evade a suspension.
- Do not resell raw access to the Service without our written agreement.
9. Monitoring and enforcement
We keep request logs (URL, host, status, tier, credits, timing) for 30 days and watch for abuse signals, such as a spike of requests to one host or unusually high block or refusal rates. We may flag accounts for review, throttle, block targets, revoke keys, or suspend or terminate accounts that breach this AUP, with or without notice.
We may cooperate with site operators and authorities where the law requires or allows.
10. Reporting abuse
If you believe Pageteer is being used against your site or in breach of this AUP, contact abuse@pageteer.devwith the affected host, times and, if available, the request ids from our responses. Site operators can also ask us to add their site to the denylist.
